As our working lives becoming more complex with increasing challenges, having the ability to utilise skills and strengths to cope and recover from problems and challenges is essential.
Resilience is our ability to withstand, deal with and/or recover from difficult situations. It includes our ability to make the best of things, cope with stress and rise to the occasion. We all have this ability, though maybe not always as much as we’d like.
Research has shown that training in resilience reduces our risk of depression, anxiety and stress-related harm, while becoming better at coping with adversity helps us get more from life. With the times of uncertainty we live in, this is a much needed skill.

We can all have different responses to the varying challenges that we all face daily, and what one person finds highly motivating, another can find highly challenging. Knowing who we are and how we react and discovering our own story of resilience, is the start of us building our resilience.
There are all kinds of different changes that we can experience, from major impacts such as losing a loved one, losing our job or having a life changing illness to daily challenges such as:
Feeling as though you are spinning too many plates and worry that some may drop.
Struggling to switch off and unwind, constantly thinking of tasks that need your attention.
Feeling stuck or trapped, unable to say or do anything.
Learning tools and techniques to increase our resilience helps to strengthen and support our mental wellbeing. By practicing and identifying when we need to put our resilience toolkit into action, we can also start spotting when it is needed in others.
